CHAIR MASSAGE WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, we will be offering Chair Massage after your workout for only $1 per minute. Reward yourself after your hard work with a quick massage, beginning at 8am on Wednesday. First come, first serve. If this new idea proves to be successful, we will continue weekly at different times and days of the week so everyone can take advantage of this service. See you tomorrow!
Health and Fitness Benefits of Yoga
You are never too old, too unfit, or too ‘tight’ to do Yoga, or to benefit from all that it has to offer.
Flexibility: Yoga stretches improve flexibility not only to muscles, but also to all soft tissue including ligaments, tendons and the fascia sheath that surrounds your muscles. And recent studies have shown that improvements occur in as little as eight weeks, with the greatest gains typically occurring in the trunk and shoulders. As tennis players, more usable range of motion and flexibility in these key areas will add power to your strokes and reduce the risk of injury!
Posture: Yoga improves core stability and body awareness, promoting better posture when sitting or standing.
Strength: Yoga poses strengthen not only the deep abdominal muscles, but the entire body in a functional way. Poses such as downward dog and plank strengthen the trunk and upper body muscles. Standing poses enhance leg strength and core stability. Poses such as upward dog and chair pose strengthen the muscles of the lower back.
Breathing: Yoga teaches mindful breathing, lengthening your breath deeper into the belly. By focusing on breath, Yoga improves lung capacity, and induces a biochemical response that promotes relaxation and reduces stress levels.
Focus & Concentration: Because Yoga involves deliberate and intentional movements from one pose to the next, it improves overall awareness, concentration, and the ability to focus. These abilities are key ingredients for success in life as well as on the tennis court!
Physical Focus has Yoga Classes upstairs on Mondays and Fridays at 12:15pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm. In addition, we will be starting new Yoga Classes at The Tennis Club of Santa Barbara beginning in May! Classes will be appropriate for all ages, fitness levels and abilities, and will be held at The Tennis Club of Santa Barbara! Classes are open to members of TCSB for $20 and nonmembers for $25!
Yoga Classes at TCSB will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15 – 6:15 pm, and Wednesdays from 9-10 am. In addition, Pilates classes at TCSB will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5 pm, and Fridays from 10:30-11:30 am. Sign up at the Tennis Club, as class sizes will be limited.
